I've been painting variations on this theme for more than ten years now. It all started with the wish to have a painting in the Cabin that would change with the seasons, but not something that I had to take down and replace with a different painting. The idea of turning the painting, so that the season in progress would be at the top and therefore the focus of the painting, was how I planned to try accomplishing it.
The first one I did came out pretty cool and I was excited about it, but I saw things that I wanted to do differently. So I made another one. And then another one. I have painted so many of these now - more than 50, I guess, of all different sizes and with many different details. No two of them look the same. And I am still painting them today; in fact, people are always asking me for one.
It is actually something of a simple yet fun way to mark the changing of the seasons. On the first day of the season, I take the painting off the wall and turn it one quarter of the way around to mark the change to the new season. It is still the same painting, but it changes the focus just a bit to make you contemplate the movement of the year and look forward to all the next season has to bring.
